oo.jpgThe Director of Vava'u Academy for Critical Inquiry and Applied Research (VACIAR), Professor Hufanga (Dr) 'Okusitino Mahina has expressed

his full support for all the cultural and art activities of Phoenix Performing Arts of Moana (PPAM). He also wrote a formal letter under the authority of VACIAR re-emphasizing this positive spirit and work in progress within PPAM.

He visited last year, together with Associate Professor Tevita O. Ka'ili of the BYU in Hawaii (also Chairperson of the LoauRS in the USA & a member of VACIAR Board) to attend the Anthropologists' Conference at the Australian National University, ANU.  It was a privilige and great opportunity for PPAM members to have a few sessions with him on Tongan dances and cultures during his visit.

Mahina was also one of the main teachers who taught and mentored the Director of Phoenix, Siosiua Lafitani, in the early periods of his dance life, including Professor Futa Helu, the founder of 'Atenisi University in the Kingdom of Tonga, and his son Niulala Helu.  Moreover, the VACIAR is an institute in the northen side of the main island of the Kingdom, Tongatapu, in Vava'u, one of the most beautiful places in Tonga and the Pacific/Moana as a whole.

Phoenix is glad to have the support and collaboration of Moanan-Tongan academic institutes such as the Vava'u Aacademy, 'Atenisi University and the Lo'au Research Society and its President 'Inoke Fotu Hu'akau. Since the inception of Phoenix, LoauRS has been its main support and advice on many issues of controversial nature, especially the Lo'au Branch in Canberra.

Early this year, the Director of 'Atenisi University, Niulala Helu, also expressed his support and encouragement for Phoenix's creativity, and just a month ago, the VACIAR joined the Club, which is overall a gift and blessing.  Associate Professor Ka'ili also embodied his support from BY the BYU around the same time.

Phoenix hopes that all this productive and positive energy can motivate and urge the Director of PPAM and all its staff and students to improve the standard of its works and services.
