p1010118.jpgOur Phoenix Performing Arts of Moana performed on Wednesday

evening 16/12/09 at the Belconnen Arts Centre (BAC) in Belconnen CANBERRA for the first time, after 10 weeks term of learning from Siua, Shiara & 'Ilaisa, just an informal demonstration but very spectacular and extra-ordinary haka from all the students (Joel Nilon, Myung Park, Tierre Alexander, Nicole Alexander & Alessandra Pecci) !!!

(Shiara Astle teaching contemporary Island dance)

Their dance items on the night were 'otuhaka (ancient sitting dance) choreographed by Siua Lafitani, island contemporary with ancient me'etupaki music by Shiara Astle, & Samoan taualunga/siva by Siua.

From Siua, words of thank go also to all of these students for the time he had with them in classes, and also some points of exchanging dance feelings and knowledge, as well as, other important issues in life as a whole.

"You're all 'guick-learners' indeed !!! It took 10 weeks for you guys to learn the basic 'haka' of Island/Moana dances, including the items of 'otuhaka, Island contemporary and Samoan tau'alunga/siva. It wasn't easy of course, not at all, butyour dedication and continuing commitment," according to Siua.

Next year classes will be running again at the BAC from Feburary onwards, on traditional and classical contemporary dances, ancient chantings (lullaby, lamentation, meditation & nose-flute with ancient percussion) & story-telling. For more information please click on www.belconnenartscentre.com.au & Phoenix Tas-Moanan Consultancy on Bebo, Facebook & Twitter !!!
